Nucleic acid therapies

Reporter gene expression can be sensitively measured in vivo and in vitro.

The gene that encodes for luciferase is a prominent reporter gene used in different areas of research. One application of the luciferase reporter gene is, for example, proof-of-concept-studies for nucleic acid therapies.

The usage of nucleic acids (DNA or RNA) for disease therapy or vaccination is an advancing field of research. Many aspects from expression kinetics of nucleic acids in vivo over stability of the nucleic acids in vivo up to the ways of delivery to specific organs are still targets of investigation. Many of these questions are primarily addressed in proof-of-concept-studies using reporter genes.
